It’s Time for a Reality Check

Are in you a job that you hate? Are you in a job that you think if you just hang in there long enough, things will get better? Are you in a job that your manager keeps promising promotions and pay increases, but everytime you bring up the subject, your manager keeps saying we are working on. If you answered yes to these questions, you need to look in the mirror and give yourself a REALITY CHECK.  Things will not get better, and as time goes on it will become more difficult to make a change.

Being honest with ourselves is one of the most difficult things we have to deal with as humans, yet one of the most freeing things. When we confront the truth, we begin the process of focusing on those things that we want and can begin to build the plan to acheive what we want.

Once Reality sets in you need to do the following:

  1. Admit the reality of your situation. Once you admit this to yourself, you have taken the first step towards moving closer to the job and career you want.

2.  Develop a plan. This plan needs to give you enough of a runway to give you time (typically 1 year) and ensure you have the financial resources (1 year salary saved) to put the plan into motion and make the transition.

3.  Execute on your plan and Share your plan with your network, mentors and other important people in your life. It is absolutely critical to rely on these people when you have realized that you need to make a change.
